AYA Dome Pod Housing

Shaping a Community‑Driven Approach to Youth Housing

Alternative Youth Activities (AYA) has been a cornerstone of support for Oregon’s youth for more than 40 years, providing education, career development, and social services for students seeking a non-traditional path forward. Serving youth who have struggled in conventional school settings, been homeschooled, or faced other barriers, AYA’s mission centers on empowering young people through flexible learning models and strong community partnerships.

Pinnacle was engaged to support the feasibility study for AYA’s proposed POD Housing initiative, a forward-thinking approach to addressing youth housing instability in Coos Bay. The study evaluated the potential for a 14-unit cluster housing community designed to provide safe, stable, and affordable living environments for young people transitioning toward independence. Our team assessed site opportunities, program requirements, and development considerations to align AYA’s vision with achievable, cost-effective solutions

Through this feasibility effort, Pinnacle helped translate AYA’s mission into a built environment strategy, one that integrates housing, support services, and community in a way that is both scalable and responsive to local needs. The outcome provides AYA with a clear roadmap for advancing the POD Housing project, positioning it as a catalytic investment in youth stability and long-term success in Coos Bay.
