SEQUOIA CROSSINGS
A Home that Heals
Sequoia Crossings is a Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) project based on the Housing First model by providing chronically homeless with housing and social support services. PSH is a proven strategy to stabilize vulnerable populations, many with mental health challenges, and improve their lives. Special design considerations around safety and resident relations are the top priority.
The design team used a trauma-informed design approach to help remove stressors, create security, encourage collaboration, and promote an overall sense of well-being. The two residential buildings and administrative office buildings are positioned around a central courtyard to create a safe socializing space. The majority of the 1- and 2-bedroom units’ entrances are visible from the courtyard to see who is coming and going.
The Administration building provides space for residents to seek assistance and socialize. The building includes a small lobby, open work area, seven private offices, a large community room with a kitchen, laundry room, and associated support spaces. The community’s teal and gray tones accented by cedar create a warm, welcoming, and lively area for residents to change their lives.
