Sequoia Crossings

Providing dignified housing combined with social services or individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness

Sequoia Crossings is an innovative Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) community based on the Housing First model of providing individuals who have experienced chronic homelessness with dignified housing co-located with an array of social services. Adding 60 units of PSH to Salem, the community boasts a beautiful community building surrounded by a wealth of resident amenities, including two dog agility courses, an outdoor ping pong table, an interactive water feature, ample lawn space, and various outdoor seating options. Pinnacle Architecture’s design delicately balances trauma-informed design principles with the safety requirements to create a comfortable and non-threatening environment, ensuring that residents feel secure and at ease. The interiors are flooded with natural light and high-end yet durable finishes – including solid surface counters, 9-foot-tall ceilings, and built-in closet organizing systems.

Sequoia Crossings delicately balances beauty and function with a high-quality and luxurious community created for the most vulnerable people in our population. Every aspect of the design considers the target population – information gleaned from local homeless support organizations, housing waitlist data, and in the field during the annual HUD Point in Time (PIT) count. The data told the story of a population of adults with a high likelihood of owning a pet and a high percentage of people living with neurodevelopmental disorders. The space is uniquely designed for this specific group of residents to thrive, with amenities focused on adults (i.e., bean bag toss, ping pong table, upscale outdoor seating areas), elements that make it easier for individuals to bring a pet (i.e., dog agility courses, assigned pet relief areas, and hard flooring), and a non-institutional look and feel with varied roof lines, open sightlines, and the use of color.

Sequoia Crossings’ positive influence extends beyond the client and its current residents; it serves as a catalyst for future growth, fostering social, economic, and environmental success within the community. Seamlessly blending into the fabric of the existing neighborhood, this sophisticated apartment complex offers high-end amenities and modern design, enhancing both the residents’ sense of pride and the overall character of the community. The design’s primary aim was to create a space that residents are proud to call home and feel inspired to contribute to the community’s overall well-being.
