Revitalizing a Rural Town 

Union is a small rural town in eastern Oregon with an abundance of history. Established in 1891, Highway 26 makes up the town’s main street as one travels from John Day to Vale. The city’s public publics were aging. Pinnacle was retained to help plan multiple renovations to meet the town’s current needs and comply with updated building codes.

Pinnacle’s team began with a renovation to the historic 1951 Community Hall. The focus was on preserving the integrity of the building while providing accessibility and energy upgrades. Improvements included new ramps, porch, siding, and mechanical, electrical equipment upgrades.

Shortly after, our team began planning for an addition to the Fire Hall to create a four-bay facility to meet the volunteer fire department’s needs. The expansion doubled the building’s size, including two additional bays, an equipment storage warehouse, showers, meeting rooms, and an office. Volunteers assisted with the construction. Due to the funding challenges, Pinnacle worked with the community to complete the projects in stages as various funding sources became available.

This is a historical Pinnacle project completed in 2001 (Community Center) and 2003 (Fire Hall).
