LA PINE SENIOR CENTER
A Center Reflective of the Community
Seniors residing in La Pine strive to maintain healthy and thriving lifestyles. They frequently gather to enjoy communal dinners, theater, games, and dancing. Thus, when the community approached Pinnacle to help them design a new facility, it was clear that the building had to accommodate an array of vibrant activities for their seniors who choose to enjoy activities close to home.
Planning for the senior center began with community design charettes, architectural brainstorming sessions conducted with Senior Action – a La Pine community group, Deschutes County officials, and other community stakeholders. During these sessions, concepts for the building’s size, occupancy, and special needs were all selected by consensus. The building’s exterior incorporates heavy timber accents with surrounding grounds that require minimal landscaping maintenance. The center offers a covered drive-up and walk-out entry for La Pine’s seniors and added front patio doors to allow unobstructed back and forth access to the outdoors during summer months. The interior features exposed laminated beams, natural stained wood trims, a vaulted ceiling with hanging pendant lights, and story-ceiling windows that stream in natural light during the day.
The La Pine Senior Center represents the dedicated, collaborative efforts of Pinnacle and the La Pine community. Now, with the capacity to host the array ongoing activities, the Senior Center anticipates increased facility usage and an expanded schedule of events. Happily, with the foresight of the community planning committee, the center was designed to easily accommodate the future space needs of the active La Pine community.
