North Campus Expands Access to Care Through Innovative Infectious Disease Center

Developed in response to critical healthcare needs during the COVID-19 pandemic, the North Campus transformed an existing facility into a specialized center for treating infectious disease while expanding access to essential healthcare services. The renovation includes exam and procedure rooms, an in-house laboratory, staff support areas, and, most recently, a pharmacy addition completed in 2026. Careful planning of patient and staff workflows established clear, separated circulation paths that reduce the risk of cross-contamination while improving operational efficiency.

A dedicated isolation entrance, separate waiting area, and specialized treatment spaces support infection control without compromising the patient experience. Advanced ventilation and air purification systems further enhance safety and building performance. Inspired by South clinic and the landscape of the Umpqua River, the design incorporates natural light, warm materials, and organic forms that create a calming, restorative environment. Delivered on a highly accelerated CARES-funded schedule, the project demonstrates how thoughtful design can respond quickly to community needs while creating lasting value for future generations
